The Pittsburgh Pirates did win the season series against the Chicago Cubs, but the final series, in Wrigley Field, left a bad taste in the mouth, losing two out of three on the road. Actually, the Chicago Cubs are one of two teams that the Bucs have beaten (5-4) on the road this season

With slightly more than a month of the season remaining, Pirates right-hander Charlie Morton is threatening to have one of the worst years by any starting pitcher in major league history. Despite spending nearly three months in Triple-A, Morton is 1-10 with a 10.03 ERA in 11 starts for the last-place Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates won only five games in the season series against Milwaukee in 2010. That’s the same as in 2009, and either result is better than the sole win in 2008

Coming off his worst start of the season, James McDonald was nearly unhittable through five innings. Unfortunately for McDonald and the Pirates, the sixth and seventh innings were an entirely different story as they lost the series opener, 7-2, to the Brewers.

Right-hander Jose Acosta of the Pirates' Venezuelan Summer League team will miss the remainder of the season after receiving a 50-game suspension on Thursday. Acosta tested positive for Stanozolol, which is a banned performance-enhancing substance.
