Pirates claim Leroux off waivers from Marlins

The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed right-hander Chris Leroux off waivers from the Florida Marlins and designated right-handed reliever Brian Bass for assignment. Leroux had a 7.00 ERA in 17 appearances with Florida, striking out 18 and walking 11 in 18 innings. He had a 6.28 ERA in 26 minor league games this season.

Pirates sign top 2 picks in June draft

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system, thin on starting pitchers with power arms, may have gotten a lot deeper in a matter of a few minutes. Houston high school right-hander Jameson Taillon, the No. 2 overall pick in the June amateur draft, agreed to a minor league contract Monday night for a $6.5 million bonus.

Dodgers add Octavio Dotel in trade with Pirates

The Los Angeles have acquired reliever Octavio Dotel from the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-hander James McDonald and minor league outfielder Andrew Lambo. The Dodgers made two deals Saturday. They earlier got left-handed starter Ted Lilly and infielder Ryan Theriot from the Chicago Cubs for infielder Blake DeWitt and two minor league pitchers.
