Pirates call up Walker to start at third base

After a severely sprained right ankle landed Steve Pearce on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, the Pirates recalled Walker and inserted him into the starting lineup against the Reds, batting him second and playing him at third base.

Pirates call up former top pick Neil Walker

Former first-round pick Neil Walker is getting a second chance to play in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates called up Walker from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and put first baseman Steve Pearce on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. Pearce got hurt while making an off-balance throw during a 7-5 loss to Cincinnati on Monday night.

Pirates recall Neil Walker, put Pearce on DL

Former first-round draft pick Neil Walker has been recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace first baseman Steve Pearce, who went on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. Walker was hitting .321 with six home runs and 26 RBIs while playing first, second and third base, and the outfield.

Righty McCutchen on DL with arm fatigue

Starter Daniel McCutchen has been placed on the Minor League disabled list with right arm fatigue. McCutchen, who started the season in the Pirates' rotation, is expected to miss only one or two starts because of the injury.
